What volunteers actually do on packing day

People remember the reading circle. Packing day is the other half of the charity: damaged copies pulled from the pile, cartons labeled so a teacher can find a grade level, tape that holds through a long route.

From Webster, New York, the work is deliberately ordinary. We would rather have careful hands than a crowded photograph. If you meet children in the field, the instruction is the same: sit at their level, let them choose the book, and do not narrate their poverty for a camera.

To offer time or in-kind books, write admin@givereads.org. Do not ship materials to our Brooklyn registered agent. That address is for service of process only.
